Your Value Proposition. How the world sees your organisation.

At the core of most organisation's strategy map is the reason for its success. The Value Proposition embodies everything about why customers or clients will do business with the organisation. It's the reason why customers buy the products or services the organisation sells.

That doesn't mean the Value Proposition is a concept reserved for sales and marketing organisations. It is also a crucial factor in planning for success in the public sector, government, education, health, local government, and not-for-profit groups, too.

How is your Value Proposition articulated? Is it couched in terms of what you do best, or in terms of how the customer/client perceives what your organisation does for him or her? It is very important to develop the Value Proposition using the language of customer perception.

Why DO your customers buy from you? Customer perception IS reality. Remember New Coke. The Ford Edsel, the Leyland P76. Great ideas. Brilliantly executed - extensively researched - but in each case they got the value proposition wrong and the customers stayed away in droves, causing the products to fail in the marketplace.

What we find works best is this: Get the Value Proposition right, articulate it well, Map your Strategy and ensure your Internal Processes, Systems and Training all closely underpin the Value Proposition, and suddenly your organisation will start to succeed like never before. It stands to reason - you've just made everything in the organisation support what your customers want from you.

If you are not already using strategy mapping to support your Value Proposition, you will be amazed at the benefits it will bring to your organisation. Once settled in - and for larger organisations - automate that capability, and it becomes even more powerful.
