And while those activities may be enjoyed by some, if not all staff, they do not serve to improve staff morale more than fleetingly, nor do they make the organisation a happy and satisfying place to work.

It's not rocket science: There are six very basic, simple core requirements critical for people to feel happy and satisfied at work. The six key ingredients are:

When all six requirements are consistently present, people experience work almost as a form of play. It's no longer arduous, it's a perfect complementary fit to their lifestyle, their psyche, their whole personality and reason for being. It's a workplace in balance.

Get these six things right, and staff get up each day, excited at the prospect of going to work. Really!

In contrast, those who do not enjoy a high quality of work life transform their dissatisfaction with their work into the production of poor quality products or services. These people can become the classic "burr under the saddle", toxic influences that can eat away at the inside of your organisation like an aggressive, insidious cancer.

When people’s creativity is properly engaged - profitability soars - because happy, healthy people work more effectively.
